Stoltenberg: Ukraine cannot join NATO during the war.

During the German Marshall Fund Brussels Forum, NATO head Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance while the war continues is impossible. “The main question is what will happen when the war ends,” the head of the Alliance said. Because of this, the discussion of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance among the allies continues, and what the outcome of the summit in Vilnius is hard to predict. He emphasized that “the most urgent and important task now is to ensure that Ukraine wins as a sovereign state. If Ukraine does not win the war, there will be no discussion regarding their membership,” Stoltenberg stated. He added, “I hope we will approve in Vilnius the long-term program of NATO and allies on the transition of Ukraine to the doctrines and equipment of Alliance standards, which will make it compatible with NATO.”
